The Golden Ladle
From Great Outdoor Store
Last week the GOS gang got together for the first annual DTSFCC Chili Cook-off graciously hosted by Robyn & Rob Green. The competition was fierce as the winning chef took home the Traveling Golden Ladle (!!!). There were traditional chilies, fake meat chilies, and super hot chilis (according to Israel who also thinks BBQ sauce is spicy). The chili that took home the Golden Ladle was prepared by Becca. For the sake of this blog post I would LOVE to report that the recipe has been handed down from generation to generation with all sorts of secret ingredients and family backstory, but that is not the story for this recipe. This recipe was sent to Becca via text message from the website Taste of Home. And, like any anyone who has ever used a recipe from a website, Becca has a few tips and tricks of her own to help you bring the honor of the Golden Ladle to your chili:
"The real key to success with this chili is the condiments. For the competition I opted for cilantro, thinly sliced jalapenos, shredded hath pepper cheese, and avocado. I believe the toppings are what set this chili apart and made it Golden Ladle worthy." --Becca
Though the chill of *prime* chili weather may be departing, we hope you take this chili report seriously. The Golden Ladle is no joke, and you can be sure the competition next year will only increase in ferocity and deliciousness. Eat well, friends!
