Meet Rachel

Where are you from?  What brought you to Sioux Falls, and or What do you love about Sioux Falls?

I was actually born in Sioux Falls, but my family moved to North Dakota when I was 9 months old. I came back to Sioux Falls for college, but ended up officially moving back after some time abroad because I missed the unique community. I have friends ask me all the time what there is to do in South Dakota and I respond with, "It's not about what I do, but it's all about whom I'm with." The people of Sioux Falls are what make it so special. That's not to say I don't thoroughly enjoy downtown, the ethnic cuisine and special events throughout the year as well!

What are your top two outdoor activities and why?

My top two outdoor activities would definitely be hiking & kayaking. I love getting new perspectives on different places and there's no better way to do that than trekking. You take notice of things that you wouldn't have if you were just driving through the area. Going on foot gets me moving and connected with nature. I get to spend time unplugged and disconnected, while breathing in fresh air and watching things happen in their spontaneous and true forms. I love it! Kayaking is so relaxing. Plus you get a great workout. It's the best of both worlds.

What is your favorite place that you have traveled to and why?

Hands down: New Zealand. I'm still not fully sure it's a real place. It just seems too good to be true! I lived there for a few months. Just ask my friends; I haven't stopped talking about it since getting back. The people are incredible, it has that care free island atmosphere, you can walk barefoot everywhere, sheep are constantly running around, they invented bungee jumping, the food is remarkable and don't even get me started on the coffee!! You get every type of terrain: open grassland, rolling/lush hills, majestic mountains, phenomenal forests, breathtaking waterfalls, the vast ocean and relaxing beaches! Plus, there's Hobbiton. I honestly don't have anything bad to say about New Zealand. Someday I will live there again, it's only a matter of time.

What is your favorite part of working at GOS?

This has been said before, time and time again, but I'm about to say it one more time: having incredible bosses. They are some of thee most hilarious, passionate, and welcoming individuals I have the privilege of knowing. They work hard, they truly care about their customers and employees and it shows! It's also a blast having individuals come into the store who are preparing for their next escapade! They give me a lot of great ideas for my next adventure.

If you were stranded on a desert island, and only had 3 foods to have with you, what would they be?

Donuts. No surprise there. Tacos. Yes, please. Sushi. Need I say more?
